1519 WHEREAS, ACT for Alexandria, a community foundation that helps both donors and nonprofit organizations make a greater impact in a number of key areas, celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2024; and

1721 WHEREAS, the origins of ACT for Alexandria may be traced to the fall of 2002, when a group of philanthropic Alexandrians, led by the family of the late Norma L. Steuerle, decided to establish a community foundation dedicated to addressing the needs of Alexandria and its residents; and

1923 WHEREAS, first known as the Alexandria Community Trust while operating as a subsidiary of the former Community Foundation for the National Capital Region, ACT for Alexandria became its own entity in 2004 and assumed its new name thereafter; and

2125 WHEREAS, ACT for Alexandria was a pioneer of fundraising through online giving days and over the past 13 years has raised $23 million through its community-wide day of giving, known as Spring2Action, which raised nearly $3 million for 188 local nonprofit organizations in 2024 alone; and

2327 WHEREAS, ACT for Alexandria's signature initiatives include the Center for Alexandria's Children, which assists young people who have been the victims of abuse or trauma, the Early Care and Education Workgroup, now known as Kids' First Years, which brings various entities together to enhance Alexandria's early care and education system, and the Youth Support Network, now Alexandria Beyond the Classroom, which coordinates the efforts of more than 100 youth-serving organizations providing quality, K-12 educational programming in the community; and

2529 WHEREAS, ACT for Alexandria has bolstered the network of local nonprofit organizations in Alexandria by advocating for key issues and by supporting more than 200 nonprofit organizations through grants, trainings, workshops, and other events; and

2731 WHEREAS, since its founding, ACT for Alexandria has distributed more than $33 million in grants to help local nonprofit organizations fulfill their missions and make a difference in the lives of those they serve; and

2933 WHEREAS, during the COVID-19 pandemic, ACT for Alexandria raised approximately $10 million to assist Alexandria's response to the unprecedented public health crisis; and

3135 WHEREAS, by helping donors connect with causes they are passionate about and by collaborating with nonprofit organizations to optimize their efforts to create a just, equitable, and vibrant community, ACT for Alexandria has been an important part of what makes Alexandria a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it

3337 RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend ACT for Alexandria on the occasion of its 20th anniversary; and, be it

3539 RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to ACT for Alexandria as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the organization's history and its contributions to the Commonwealth.
