2025 SESSION ENROLLED HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 578 Commending Art on the Avenue. Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 10, 2025 Agreed to by the Senate, February 13, 2025 WHEREAS, Art on the Avenue, a regional, multicultural arts and music festival in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, has celebrated the diversity of the community, supported local artists, and provided family-friendly entertainment to generations of attendees for nearly 30 years; and WHEREAS, typically located on Mt. Vernon Avenue, Art on the Avenue was established in the mid-1990s and has endured to become a beloved local tradition and the signature fall event in the Del Ray neighborhood, taking place every first Saturday in October; and WHEREAS, a true grassroots, community event, Art on the Avenue is run entirely by a team of dedicated volunteers with generous support from local businesses and organizations; and WHEREAS, offering hundreds of arts and crafts vendors, four stages of live music, children's activity areas, and delicious food and baked goods, Art on the Avenue draws more than 50,000 people each year; and WHEREAS, Art on the Avenue gives attendees an opportunity to meet, engage with, and learn from local artists, as well as purchase their works, including paintings, illustrations, photography, knitting and crochet, 3-D printed items, wood crafts, leather goods, glass, and more; and WHEREAS, the 29th Annual Art on the Avenue in 2024 set a new record, with more than 600 artists applying to be part of the event, ensuring that every attendee found a meaningful piece of artwork; and WHEREAS, among many awards and accolades, Art on the Avenue has been voted as the top arts event in Northern Virginia by readers of Virginia Living magazine several times; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Art on the Avenue on the occasion of its 30th anniversary in 2025; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Art on the Avenue as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the long-running event's legacy of contributions to cultural life in Alexandria.
