2025 SESSION ENROLLED HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 681 Celebrating the life of Meghan Rose Hinger. Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 18, 2025 Agreed to by the Senate, February 20, 2025 WHEREAS, Meghan Rose Hinger, a passionate health care professional who provided exceptional leadership to the Charlottesville Free Clinic and helped the organization fulfill its benevolent mission, died on January 15, 2025; and WHEREAS, Meghan Hinger graduated from Tabb High School in Yorktown and studied nursing at what is now the University of Lynchburg; she was a talented field hockey player in her high school and college years; and WHEREAS, after receiving a bachelor's degree in nursing, Meghan Hinger began working in the Emergency Department at the University of Virginia Medical Center; she was recognized for her commitment to patient care and satisfaction, became one of the youngest nurse managers at the center, and was instrumental in designing a new Emergency Department, which opened in 2018; and WHEREAS, Meghan Hinger originally joined the Charlottesville Free Clinic as a volunteer in 2016; the clinic engages with more than 700 volunteer health care professionals from the University of Virginia Health System and other community practices to provide high-quality medical, dental, and pharmacy services for community members without affordable access to health care; and WHEREAS, Meghan Hinger helped create a more equitable health care environment in the community, transforming patient care and medical operations at the Charlottesville Free Clinic through her dedication and expertise; and WHEREAS, in 2023, Meghan Hinger was promoted to co-chief executive officer of the Charlottesville Free Clinic; and WHEREAS, under Meghan Hinger's leadership, the Charlottesville Free Clinic outperformed national benchmarks in multiple categories and greatly expanded its service; she oversaw site selection and design of a new building in order to be able to treat more patients, and she led efforts to create a free dental clinic; and WHEREAS, Meghan Hinger inspired others through her compassion, empathy, and unparalleled commitment to the health and wellness of her patients; among many accolades, she was recognized as a 40 under 40 Trailblazer by the Virginia Nurses Foundation; and WHEREAS, predeceased by her mother, Loretta, Meghan Hinger will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her father, Robert; her sisters, Sarah Ann and Kathleen, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Meghan Rose Hinger, a leader in health care who touched countless lives in the Charlottesville area; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Meghan Rose Hinger as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for her memory.
