2025 SESSION ENROLLED HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 461 Commending the James Wood High School volleyball team. Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 20, 2025 WHEREAS, the James Wood High School volleyball team, representing Frederick County with exceptional skill, dedication, and sportsmanship, achieved a historic milestone by winning its third consecutive Virginia High School League Class 4 state championship on November 18, 2024; and WHEREAS, the James Wood High School Colonels secured the state title in a thrilling five-set match against Courtland High School at the Siegel Center at Virginia Commonwealth University, prevailing with set scores of 2517, 2325, 3028, 1825, and 1510; and WHEREAS, the 2024 state championship was especially remarkable as the James Wood Colonels demonstrated resilience, perseverance, and an unbreakable bond to overcome numerous challenges, including the loss of key starters from the previous season, illnesses, and the integration of six new players into its roster; and WHEREAS, junior outside hitter Brenna Corbin led the team with 21 kills and inspired her teammates with her determination, while senior defensive specialist Addie Pitcock contributed to the team's success with her unwavering commitment and leadership, culminating in her third state championship ring; and WHEREAS, junior Kennedy Spaid delivered an outstanding performance, recording a match-high 25 kills and propelling the Colonels to victory in the decisive fifth set; and WHEREAS, under the steadfast leadership of head coach Adrienne Patrick and assistant coach Brandy Corbin, the James Wood Colonels exemplified the values of teamwork, family, and heart, demonstrating that success is built on both talent and passion; and WHEREAS, the James Wood High School volleyball team has brought great pride and recognition to Frederick County through its championship legacy and its embodiment of excellence on and off the court; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the James Wood High School volleyball team hereby be commended for winning the 2024 Virginia High School League Class 4 state championship; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the James Wood High School volleyball team as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's remarkable achievements and best wishes for continued success in the future.
