2025 SESSION ENROLLED HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 490 Commending the Lighthouse Community Center. Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 27, 2025 WHEREAS, for more than a decade, the Lighthouse Community Center has provided compassionate, trauma-informed care to members of the Lynchburg community in need; and WHEREAS, established in 2004, the Lighthouse Community Center strives to enhance the quality of life of local residents through dignified, tangible programs and supportive services that foster self-reliance; and WHEREAS, the Lighthouse Community Center promotes community wellness while building strong relationships based on trust, empathy, and mutual respect between participants, providers, and volunteers; and WHEREAS, the Lighthouse Community Center is a beacon of hope for more than 15,000 people each year, offering immediate access to food, clothes, hygiene products, and other necessities, as well as bicycles and rides to school or work; and WHEREAS, ably led by cofounders Finny Mathew and Martha Brown and director of operations Terrick Moyer, the Lighthouse Community Center has fulfilled its mission through the hard work of its staff, board of directors, and countless volunteers, and generous donations from individuals and community partners; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Lighthouse Community Center hereby be commended on the occasion of its 20th anniversary; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Lighthouse Community Center as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for its vital contributions to vulnerable residents of Lynchburg and work to strengthen the community as a whole.
