1319 WHEREAS, Hunter Dakota Reedy, a beloved son, husband, and father, treasured member of the Marion community, and dedicated law-enforcement officer with the Smyth County Sheriff's Office, died in the line of duty on August 9, 2024; and

1521 WHEREAS, born in Abingdon, Hunter Reedy graduated from Chilhowie High School in 2014 and explored careers as a commercial driver and electrical engineer before answering the call to law enforcement; and

1723 WHEREAS, after working with the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority, Hunter Reedy enrolled at the Southwest Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy and subsequently worked in the Chilhowie community as a law-enforcement officer before joining the Smyth County Sheriff's Office; and

1925 WHEREAS, as a deputy with the Smyth County Sheriff's Office, Hunter Reedy worked tirelessly and with a great sense of purpose to ensure the safety and well-being of those he served; and

2127 WHEREAS, with a brave and adventurous spirit, Hunter Reedy could often be found racing at Wythe Raceway, where he won several feature races, and he was also undaunted by the challenge of bull riding; and

2329 WHEREAS, Hunter Reedy was unwavering in his willingness and desire to help others, and he found no greater joy in life than to spend time with his family; and

2531 WHEREAS, Hunter Reedy will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife, Bettina; his children, Brantley, Kaden, and Kaede Belle; his parents, Chuck and Marie; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

2733 RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Hunter Dakota Reedy, a distinguished law-enforcement officer whose service and sacrifice will inspire others for generations to come; and, be it

2935 RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Hunter Dakota Reedy as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
