2025 SESSION ENROLLED HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 500 Commending the Brunswick Academy football team. Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 27, 2025 WHEREAS, the Brunswick Academy football team earned its third consecutive state title with a victory in the Virginia Independent Schools Football League Division II state championship in November 2024; and WHEREAS, beginning the season with only one returning starter, the Brunswick Academy Vikings relied on determination, adaptability, and teamwork to uphold the program's winning ways and reach the state final; and WHEREAS, the Brunswick Vikings defeated the Southampton Academy Raiders by a score of 276 at the Dinwiddie Sports Complex to finish the season with an impressive 93 record; and WHEREAS, the Brunswick Academy Vikings took the lead in the first quarter with a 23-yard touchdown run by La'Quarion Whitaker and never looked back; and WHEREAS, while the Brunswick Vikings defense stymied the Southampton Raiders again and again, La'Quarion Whitaker added a second rushing touchdown, followed by a passing touchdown from Nathan Wells to I'szwohn Bragg, and another rushing touchdown by Jayden Watson to give the team an insurmountable lead heading into the fourth quarter; and WHEREAS, the successful season was a tribute to the skill and hard work of all the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of coaches and staff, and the passionate support of family members, friends, and the entire Brunswick Academy community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Brunswick Academy football team hereby be commended on winning its third consecutive state title in the Virginia Independent School Football League Division II state championship in 2024; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Bubba Weidman, head coach of the Brunswick Academy football team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's incredible athletic achievements.
