1319 WHEREAS, for 48 years, Providence Presbyterian Church of Virginia Beach has provided its members with uplifting spiritual guidance, occasions for joyful worship, and opportunities for generous community outreach; and

1521 WHEREAS, the vision for Providence Presbyterian Church came from what is today the Presbytery of Eastern Virginia, which recognized the growing community in the Kempsville area of Virginia Beach and authorized and supported the establishment of a new church at the intersection of Providence Road and Whitehurst Landing Road; and

1723 WHEREAS, the organizing pastor, the Reverend Carlyle A. McDonald, held Providence Presbyterian Church's first worship service at Woodstock Elementary School in Virginia Beach on June 5, 1977, and the church was formally chartered on November 13 that same year; and

1925 WHEREAS, Providence Presbyterian Church broke ground for its new church building on October 4, 1981, and held its first services at the site on August 8, 1982; and

2127 WHEREAS, since the Reverend McDonald, Providence Presbyterian Church has been subsequently led by several other accomplished pastors, including its current pastor, the Reverend Joel Phillips, all of whom have provided enlightened counsel to the church's members while working tirelessly to ensure the church's prosperity and longevity; and

2329 WHEREAS, Providence Presbyterian Church has organized a number of missions, educational endeavors, and charitable activities to help its members grow in their faith and to benefit the community; and

2531 WHEREAS, over the past 48 years, Providence Presbyterian Church has been a spiritual home for the many individuals who have sought solace and a greater sense of purpose within its walls; now, therefore, be it

2733 RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Providence Presbyterian Church hereby be commended on the occasion of its 48th anniversary; and, be it

2935 RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Providence Presbyterian Church as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the church's history and its contributions to the Commonwealth.
