2025 SESSION ENROLLED HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 517 Commending Vada Carawan. Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 27, 2025 WHEREAS, Vada Carawan, an 11-year-old resident of Virginia Beach, showed extraordinary resourcefulness and calm under pressure when she saved her father's life on November 23, 2024; and WHEREAS, after seeing her father collapse and become unresponsive, Vada Carawan quickly dialed 9-1-1 and began administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation; and WHEREAS, with great strength and determination, Vada Carawan applied chest compressions until paramedics were able to arrive at the scene and revive her father; and WHEREAS, Vada Carawan learned the techniques of cardiopulmonary resuscitation that she applied only 11 days prior during a training exercise organized by her Girl Scout troop; and WHEREAS, Vada Carawan has demonstrated that people of any age can achieve incredible feats with proper readiness and preparation and is an inspiration to all Virginians; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Vada Carawan hereby be commended for saving her father's life; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Vada Carawan as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for her bravery and heroism.
