1319 WHEREAS, Virginia Beach City Public Schools received a grant through the New York Life Foundation's Grief-Sensitive Schools Initiative, enhancing the school division's ability to support and uplift students who are suffering from the loss of a family member, friend, or neighbor; and

1521 WHEREAS, the $37,500 grant will help Virginia Beach City Public Schools develop comprehensive support plans for students in need, with crisis teams from all 75 schools in the division undergoing specialized training; and

1723 WHEREAS, Virginia Beach City Public Schools will also use the grant to improve bereavement plans and encourage staff development; and

1925 WHEREAS, by cultivating resources to support students during difficult times, the faculty, administrators, and staff of Virginia Beach City Public Schools will ensure that a student's grief does not go unattended and potentially lead to poor academic performance or long-term mental health issues; now, therefore, be it

2127 RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Virginia Beach City Public Schools hereby be commended for receiving the Grief-Sensitive Schools Initiative Grant from the New York Life Foundation in 2024; and, be it

2329 RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Virginia Beach City Public Schools as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the school divisions' dedication to helping young people overcome difficult periods in their lives.
