HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 520
Commending First Lynnhaven Baptist Church.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 27, 2025
WHEREAS, for 154 years, First Lynnhaven Baptist Church of Virginia Beach has provided its members with uplifting spiritual guidance, occasions for joyful worship, and opportunities for generous community outreach; and
WHEREAS, First Lynnhaven Baptist Church began as a bush tent near the Little Neck section of Virginia Beach and after several years ultimately settled at its present site on Robert Jackson Drive; and
WHEREAS, First Lynnhaven Baptist Church was initially led by the Reverend Jacob Gaskins and has since been directed by 11 other accomplished pastors, including its current pastor, the Reverend Dr. Luther S. Allen III, all of whom have provided sage counsel to the church's members while working tirelessly to ensure the church's prosperity and longevity; and
WHEREAS, First Lynnhaven Baptist Church has organized multiple ministries, educational endeavors, and charitable activities over the years to help its members grow in their faith and to benefit the community; and
WHEREAS, First Lynnhaven Baptist Church has established First Lynnhaven Global, a virtual Facebook community, enabling the church to connect with ministry participants around the world; and
WHEREAS, over the past 154 years, First Lynnhaven Baptist Church has been a spiritual home for the many individuals who have sought solace and a greater sense of purpose within its walls; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That First Lynnhaven Baptist Church hereby be commended on the occasion of its 154th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to First Lynnhaven Baptist Church as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the church's history and its contributions to the Commonwealth.
