HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 533
Commending the New Chesapeake Men for Progress Education Foundation, Inc.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 27, 2025
WHEREAS, for 15 years, the New Chesapeake Men for Progress Education Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit organization in Chesapeake, has provided scholarships to worthy high school seniors, offered mentorship opportunities to younger students, and made other important contributions to local schools; and
WHEREAS, established on January 21, 2010, as the philanthropic arm of New Chesapeake Men for Progress, the New Chesapeake Men for Progress Education Foundation collects generous donations from individuals, businesses, and community partners and has become a respected philanthropic leader in the region; and
WHEREAS, over the course of its history, the New Chesapeake Men for Progress Education Foundation has awarded more than $229,000 in scholarships, helping more than 250 students attend institutions of higher education in the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, the New Chesapeake Men for Progress Education Foundation has provided more than $4,000 to support local Title I schools and more than $5,500 for other mentoring programs, cultural enrichment projects, and youth initiatives; and
WHEREAS, in 2024, the New Chesapeake Men for Progress Education Foundation increased its total number of scholarship awards to 30 and began supporting students pursuing an education in trades or the arts; and
WHEREAS, that same year, the New Chesapeake Men for Progress Education Foundation increased funds to three Title I schools, Carver Intermediate School, Marshall Elementary School, and Truitt Intermediate School, as well as the Chesapeake Center for Student Success; the organization also began sponsoring Rena B. Wright Elementary School for the first time; and
WHEREAS, the New Chesapeake Men for Progress Education Foundation has forged strong relationships with Chesapeake Public Schools, the Chesapeake Redevelopment and Housing Authority, New Mount Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church, and other organizations to fulfill its mission; and
WHEREAS, the New Chesapeake Men for Progress Education Foundation looks forward to expanding partnerships and strengthening bonds within the community to ensure every child has the support they need to succeed in school and achieve their dreams; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the New Chesapeake Men for Progress Education Foundation, Inc., hereby be commended for its contributions to students and schools in Chesapeake on the occasion of its 15th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the New Chesapeake Men for Progress Education Foundation, Inc., as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for its work to help young people achieve their academic goals.
