HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 542

Celebrating the life of First Lieutenant Zachary Dart Galli, USA.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 3, 2025

 

WHEREAS, First Lieutenant Zachary Dart Galli, USA, a beloved member of the Williamsburg community and a graduate of the University of Virginia who served his country as a member of the United States Army, died on May 11, 2024, from injuries sustained during a training mission; and

WHEREAS, born in Norfolk, Zachary Galli lived in Chesapeake and Yorktown before settling in the Williamsburg area with his family; he graduated from Lafayette High School, where he was a member of the varsity soccer team, participated in multiple honor societies, and was elected as vice president of his senior class; and

WHEREAS, Zachary Galli attended the University of Virginia on a Reserve Officers' Training Corps scholarship; he joined Chi Alpha Christian fellowship, served as social chair of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, and volunteered to help less fortunate children at a nonprofit organization in Charlottesville; and

WHEREAS, after graduation, Zachary Galli was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army and received the Superior Cadet Decoration Award and the Professor of Military Science Award for Excellence in recognition of his outstanding leadership abilities; and

WHEREAS, Zachary Galli trained at Fort Gregg-Adams and graduated from the Army Logistics University, receiving the Distinguished Award of Merit, then received a highly selective posting to the Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, where he was a standout student and passed all 45 required tests on his first try; and

WHEREAS, in January 2024, Zachary Galli was assigned to Fort Carson in Colorado with the 749th Ordnance Company (EOD), 242nd Explosive Ordnance Battalion (EOD), of the 71st Ordnance Group (EOD); and

WHEREAS, Zachary Galli was a proactive leader who loved pursuing new opportunities and a devoted friend who thrived on supporting others; and

WHEREAS, Zachary Galli will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his parents, Michael and Gail; his siblings, Joshua and Abigail; his grandparents, Virginia Galli and James and Bettie Faris; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of First Lieutenant Zachary Dart Galli, USA, a highly admired member of the Williamsburg community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of First Lieutenant Zachary Dart Galli, USA, as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
