2025 SESSION ENROLLED HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 595 Commending Giovanni Antonio Snidle. Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 10, 2025 WHEREAS, Giovanni Antonio Snidle, a respected diplomat and civil servant who dedicated 40 years to serving the country as a member of the United States Arms Control and Disarmament Agency and the United States Department of State, retired in January 2025; and WHEREAS, born in London and raised in Norfolk, Giovanni Snidle earned a bachelor's degree in international studies and economics from American University in 1981 and a master's degree in foreign affairs from the University of Virginia in 1985; and WHEREAS, from 1985 to 1999, Giovanni Snidle served as a foreign affairs officer and deputy chief with the former U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency, spearheading a number of initiatives to support nonproliferation and national security; and WHEREAS, Giovanni Snidle later served in the U.S. Department of State as senior coordinator for regional security and confidence building measures for the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs and then as senior advisor on hemispheric security policy to the Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs; and WHEREAS, Giovanni Snidle has served as a security and defense adviser to the U.S. Permanent Mission to the Organization of American States (OAS) since 1992 and at the time of his retirement was the principal security advisor to the United States Ambassador to OAS and a United States senior counselor and alternate representative to OAS; and WHEREAS, Giovanni Snidle has supported the OAS in numerous leadership capacities, including several terms as vice chair of its Committee on Hemispheric Security, and he was the United States representative to the Secretary General of the United Nation's Group of Governmental Experts on the UN Register of Conventional Arms in 1997, 2000, and 2003; and WHEREAS, Giovanni Snidle was the recipient of numerous superior honor awards in recognition of his efforts with the U.S. Department of State, including the prestigious Arthur S. Flemming Award for excellence in government service; and WHEREAS, Giovanni Snidle's unique expertise and outstanding professional service contributed in significant ways to the United States Government's efforts to address international crime, and his personal initiative and dedicated efforts have made a significant contribution to the security architecture of the Western hemisphere, advancing the peace and security of the United States; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Giovanni Antonio Snidle, a distinguished diplomat of the United States Department of State, hereby be commended on the occasion of his retirement; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Giovanni Antonio Snidle as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his legacy of service and best wishes for a rewarding and fulfilling retirement.
