HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 596
Commending David Long.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 10, 2025
WHEREAS, for 50 years, David Long has venerably served the Hanover County community as a member of the Eastern Hanover Volunteer Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, David Long officially joined the Eastern Hanover Volunteer Fire Department in 1974, where his father was a charter member; and
WHEREAS, David Long enhanced his abilities as a firefighter by participating in the first certification programs for Firefighter I, II, and III in Hanover County; and
WHEREAS, David Long was instrumental in establishing the Eastern Hanover Volunteer Fire Department's Santa Runs, a beloved annual tradition in the community that he continues to lead to this day; and
WHEREAS, with great wisdom and experience, David Long has provided invaluable leadership to the Eastern Hanover Volunteer Fire Department in his capacity as secretary, captain, and vice president, the position in which he currently serves; and
WHEREAS, David Long has given generously of his time over the past 15 years to support the Eastern Hanover Volunteer Fire Department's operations by leading its annual fund drive; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of their commitment to volunteering, David Long and his family were named Hanover County Volunteer Family of the Year in 2007 and honored by Governor Tim Kaine a year later; and
WHEREAS, David Long spearheaded initiatives to provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator (AED) training to the Hanover Senior Softball League and to install an AED at Pole Green Park in Hanover County; and
WHEREAS, on July 31, 2024, David Long utilized the AED at Pole Green Park to save an individual suffering from cardiac arrest, demonstrating the direct and meaningful ways in which his leadership and service have made Hanover County safer; and
WHEREAS, David Long has been aided in all of his endeavors by his loving and supportive family, including his wife, Dianne; his daughters, Tracey and Courtney; and his parents, Will and Audrey; and
WHEREAS, through his courage, selflessness, and dedication, David Long has inspired future generations of firefighters and community leaders and earned the admiration and respect of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That David Long hereby be commended on the occasion of his 50th anniversary of service with the Eastern Hanover Volunteer Fire Department; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to David Long as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his contributions to Hanover County and the Commonwealth.
