1319 WHEREAS, James Younts, a student at Patriot High School in Prince William County, was selected as a National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalist by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for 2025; and

1521 WHEREAS, the National Merit Scholarship Program is an annual academic competition for high school students in the United States that was established in 1955; this spring, the program will award approximately 6,870 scholarships that will be collectively worth nearly $26 million; and

1723 WHEREAS, James Younts was selected as a National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalist as a result of his strong score on the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test; and

1925 WHEREAS, James Younts was among more than 16,000 other high school seniors from across the country who were selected as semifinalists for the 70th annual National Merit Scholarship Program and now has the opportunity to compete to attain finalist standing and to win a prestigious National Merit Scholarship; and

2127 WHEREAS, James Younts' accomplishment is the result of his hard work and dedication, the leadership and guidance of his teachers, and the unwavering support of his family and the entire Patriot High School community; now, therefore, be it

2329 RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That James Younts hereby be commended for being named a 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalist; and, be it

2531 RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to James Younts as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his achievement and best wishes for his continued success.
