1319 WHEREAS, the Douglas Freeman High School girls' lacrosse team won the Virginia High School League Class 5 state championship at Glen Allen High School on June 8, 2024; and

1521 WHEREAS, the Douglas Freeman High School Mavericks defeated the Lightridge High School Lightning Bolts of Loudoun County by a score of 95, securing an extraordinary fourth consecutive state championship title; and

1723 WHEREAS, the Douglas Freeman Mavericks fell behind early, trailing 42 in the first quarter, but were able to mount a steady comeback, going into halftime with a 55 tie and posting four unanswered goals in the second half; and

1925 WHEREAS, the Douglas Freeman Mavericks' victory was a total team effort led by Eva Gardner and Hannah Kantanen, who both scored three goals in the match, as well as Laney Gilman, who had two goals; and

2733 RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Douglas Freeman High School girls' lacrosse team hereby be commended for winning the 2024 Virginia High School League Class 5 state championship; and, be it

2935 RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Christina D'Angelo, coach of the Douglas Freeman High School girls' lacrosse team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's achievements.
