2025 SESSION ENROLLED HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 662 Celebrating the life of Elizabeth Sampson Johnson. Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 17, 2025 WHEREAS, Elizabeth Sampson Johnson, an active and beloved member of the Highland Springs community, died on August 26, 2024, at the age of 100; and WHEREAS, in her professional life, Elizabeth Johnson broke barriers as the first Black cafeteria manager in the Highland Springs community, demonstrating extraordinary leadership and dedication to her work and inspiring future generations; and WHEREAS, Elizabeth Johnson was guided throughout her life by her deep commitment to her faith, and she enjoyed worship and fellowship with her community at Fair Oak Baptist Church in Highland Springs, where she served as church clerk for many years; and WHEREAS, Elizabeth Johnson was a proud and longstanding member of Fair Oak Baptist Church's Memorial Choir, contributing her beautiful voice to the congregation's worship and outreach; and WHEREAS, preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and daughter, Judith, Elizabeth Johnson will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her sister, Elnora, and her family and by numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Elizabeth Sampson Johnson, a treasured member of the Highland Springs community whose kindness, wisdom, and unwavering faith made an indelible impact on countless lives and touched the hearts of all who knew her; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Elizabeth Sampson Johnson as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for her memory.
