1319 WHEREAS, the Honorable Donald May Haddock, a veteran of the United States Army, esteemed attorney, distinguished judge on the Alexandria Circuit Court, and beloved husband, father, grandfather, and member of the Alexandria community, died on December 23, 2024; and

1521 WHEREAS, after graduating from Episcopal High School in Alexandria and Princeton University, Donald Haddock earned a juris doctor degree from the University of Virginia and a master of laws degree from The George Washington University; and

1723 WHEREAS, following law school, Donald Haddock served his country with honor and distinction as a captain in the Army Materiel Command of the United States Army; and

1925 WHEREAS, Donald Haddock began his legal career as a sole practitioner and part-time assistant Commonwealth's attorney, then practiced law for some time with the firm of Thomas, Kent, Haddock & Sewell, before ultimately returning to being a sole practitioner; and

2127 WHEREAS, Donald Haddock became a judge on the Alexandria Circuit Court of the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit of Virginia in 1984, where he would serve for the next 27 years, including 14 years as chief judge; he then served often as a substitute judge in his retirement, achieving more than 40 years of service on the bench in his lifetime; and

2329 WHEREAS, over his career as a judge, Donald Haddock presided over his court with exceptional wisdom and discernment, ensuring fairness and justice for all of the parties that came before him; and

2531 WHEREAS, outside of his professional life, Donald Haddock's pastimes included hunting, fishing, and farming, and above all else, he enjoyed spending quality time with his family; and

2733 WHEREAS, Donald Haddock will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife of 59 years, Joyce; his children, David and Donald, Jr., and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

2935 RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of the Honorable Donald May Haddock, a pillar of the Alexandria legal community whose service and dedication inspired all who knew him; and, be it

3137 RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of the Honorable Donald May Haddock as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
