1319 WHEREAS, the Reverend Dr. Wilson E. Shannon, an honorable veteran, esteemed pastor, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, and treasured member of the Chesterfield County community, died on August 11, 2024; and

1521 WHEREAS, affectionately known by family and friends as Duck, Wilson Shannon was born in Richmond and received his education at Richmond Public Schools, graduating from Armstrong High School in 1974; and

1723 WHEREAS, Wilson Shannon served his country with honor and distinction as a member of the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado; and

1925 WHEREAS, Wilson Shannon answered the call to become a faith leader and was ordained at Beacon Light Baptist Church near Fort Carson, Colorado, in 1976; and

2127 WHEREAS, following his service, Wilson Shannon continued his educational pursuits by earning a bachelor's degree in 1983 and a master's degree in divinity in 1986 from Virginia Union University and a doctor of ministry degree in 1990 from Howard University; and

2329 WHEREAS, for nearly a half-century, Wilson Shannon provided insightful and uplifting spiritual guidance to the congregations he served, while demonstrating a steadfast commitment to promoting academic development in the community; and

2531 WHEREAS, after serving as pastor of Shalom Baptist Fellowship Church in Richmond for 12 years, Wilson Shannon led First Baptist Church Centralia in Chesterfield County for 33 years, where he contributed greatly to the church's growth and success and its ability to make a lasting and meaningful impact on the lives of others; and

2733 WHEREAS, Wilson Shannon will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife of 49 years, Cynthia; his children, Xavier and Tawanda, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

2935 RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of the Reverend Dr. Wilson E. Shannon, a revered member of the Chesterfield County community whose unwavering faith and dedication inspired all who knew him; and, be it

3137 RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of the Reverend Dr. Wilson E. Shannon as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
