HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 695
Commending the Mary Star of the Sea Council 511 of the Knights of Columbus.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 17, 2025
WHEREAS, the Mary Star of the Sea Council 511 of the Knights of Columbus, the Hampton chapter of the distinguished Catholic fraternal organization, celebrates its 125th anniversary in 2025; and
WHEREAS, the Mary Star of the Sea Council 511 of the Knights of Columbus traces its origins to the founding of the Newport News Council 511 on May 13, 1900, which initially met at the Citizens & Marine Bank Building in Newport News; and
WHEREAS, after bringing the community together through various events and activities such as parades, fish fries, and circuses for the better part of a century, the Newport News Council 511 united with the Mary Star of the Sea Council 5323 in 1979, becoming the Mary Star of the Sea Council 511 of the Knights of Columbus; and
WHEREAS, today, the Mary Star of the Sea Council 511 has more than 170 members from its home parishes at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Hampton and Saint Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Fort Monroe; and
WHEREAS, guided by the principles of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism, the Mary Star of the Sea Council 511 has been instrumental over the years in helping its members and their families and parishes grow closer to Christ; and
WHEREAS, through programs emphasizing faith, family, and community life, the Mary Star of the Sea Council 511 has provided its members with a wealth of opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others; and
WHEREAS, by fostering a sense of togetherness while aiding countless individuals in their spiritual journeys, the Mary Star of the Sea Council 511 has helped to make Hampton a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Mary Star of the Sea Council 511 of the Knights of Columbus hereby be commended on the occasion of its 125th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Mary Star of the Sea Council 511 of the Knights of Columbus as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the organization's contributions to the Commonwealth.
