HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 813
Celebrating the life of Jacquelyn G. Hontz.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 20, 2025
WHEREAS, Jacquelyn G. Hontz, a former resident of Fredericksburg who touched countless lives through her volunteerism and community leadership, died on January 25, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Jacquelyn Jackie G. Hontz was born in Washington, D.C., and grew up in Hyattsville, Maryland, where she attended Northwestern High School; and
WHEREAS, Jackie Hontz continued her education at St. Olaf College in Minnesota, not far from her father's home town, Ely, then transferred to the University of Maryland, where she met her future husband, Ted; and
WHEREAS, Jackie Hontz played a pivotal role in the success of her husband's long career in the United States Navy, providing support and stability for their growing family as they moved between different duty stations across the country 14 times; and
WHEREAS, after Ted's retirement, the couple settled in Fredericksburg, where Jackie Hontz was an active leader in community affairs for many years, serving on the boards of numerous nonprofit organizations, including Mental Health America of Fredericksburg; and
WHEREAS, Jackie Hontz inspired young people as a Sunday school teacher at Trinity Episcopal Church and founded The Leadership Roundtable, a women's support group that was involved in local, state, and national politics; and
WHEREAS, predeceased by her son, Edward, Jackie Hontz will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her husband, Ted; her daughters, Jenny and Gretchen, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Jacquelyn G. Hontz, who made lasting contributions to the Fredericksburg community; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Jacquelyn G. Hontz as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for her memory.
