HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 816

Commending the Washington Commanders.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 21, 2025

 

WHEREAS, during the 2024 season of the National Football League, the Washington Commanders reached the National Football Conference Championship Game; and

WHEREAS, on December 29, 2024, the Washington Commanders clinched their first playoff berth since 2020 with an exciting 3024 overtime victory against the Atlanta Falcons; and

WHEREAS, the Washington Commanders subsequently defeated the Dallas Cowboys to finish the regular season with a 125 record, their highest win total since 1991 and the largest improvement by wins over two seasons in team history; and

WHEREAS, entering the postseason as the sixth seed, the Washington Commanders defeated the third-seeded Tampa Bay Buccaneers by a score of 2320 in the National Football Conference (NFC) Wild Card Playoffs and upset the first-seeded Detroit Lions in the NFC Divisional Playoffs by a score of 4531; and

WHEREAS, the Washington Commanders then appeared in the NFC championship Game on January 26, 2025, the team's first appearance in that game since 1991; and

WHEREAS, 2024 marked the 93rd season in the National Football League (NFL) for the Washington Commanders; it was the team's first season under the leadership of general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn, as well as the new ownership team led by Josh Harris; and

WHEREAS, the Washington Commanders assembled an impressive roster of veteran and new players, including the second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, quarterback Jayden Daniels, who set the NFL record for most rushing yards in a season by a rookie quarterback and was selected as NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year; and

WHEREAS, wide receiver Terry McLaurin, set the franchise record for touchdown catches in a season with 13, linebackers Frankie Luvu and Bobby Wagner, and kick returner Austin Ekeler were named as NFL All-Pro Second-Team selections; and

WHEREAS, the Washington Commanders' offense ranked among the franchise's best, tying for the second-most total points in a season with 485; and

WHEREAS, the Washington Commanders proudly call Virginia home, with the organization's corporate headquarters and its practice facility located in Ashburn; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Washington Commanders hereby be commended on an outstanding 2024 season; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to representatives of the Washington Commanders as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's athletic achievements and best wishes for the 2025 season.
