HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 826
Commending Tarrick McGuire.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 21, 2025
WHEREAS, Tarrick McGuire, an experienced law-enforcement officer who has earned national accolades for his commitment to community-oriented policing and innovative crime reduction strategies, was appointed as chief of the Alexandria Police Department in November 2024; and
WHEREAS, Tarrick McGuire is a graduate of Oklahoma State University, Criswell College, and California Baptist University; he previously served as a member of the Arlington Police Department in Arlington, Texas, where he gained 11 years of command-level experience and rose to the rank of deputy chief; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure with the Arlington Police Department, Tarrick McGuire held numerous leadership roles related to uniformed patrol, investigations, and community relations, and he worked with community members, state officials, and federal law-enforcement agencies to implement policies and programs that resulted in annual declines in violent crime; and
WHEREAS, Tarrick McGuire helped establish Mentoring Arlington Youth, a multidisciplinary program that reduced crime among youths and was recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, and the Safe Roads Initiative, which reduced vehicle crashes and fatalities on local roads; and
WHEREAS, among many honors and accolades, Tarrick McGuire has been inducted into the Evidence-Based Policing Hall of Fame and was appointed as a fellow of the International Association of Chiefs of Police for the National 21st Century Policing Reform Initiative; and
WHEREAS, Tarrick McGuire will use his law-enforcement expertise and visionary leadership skills to build meaningful connections with the residents of Alexandria and ensure that the officers and staff of the Alexandria Police Department have the tools and training they need to build a safer, stronger community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Tarrick McGuire hereby be commended on the occasion of his appointment as chief of the Alexandria Police Department; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Tarrick McGuire as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his achievements as a law-enforcement officer and best wishes in his new role serving the Alexandria community.
