2025 SESSION ENROLLED HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 845 Commending the Southside Youth Football League, the Huntersville Wolverines Football and Cheer Organization, and the Park Place Kings Football and Cheer Organization. Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 21, 2025 WHEREAS, the Southside Youth Football League has long been a pillar of youth development in Norfolk and the Hampton Roads Region, fostering discipline, teamwork, and leadership among young student-athletes through football and cheerleading; and WHEREAS, the Huntersville Wolverines Football and Cheer Organization, under the leadership of President Tony Brown, Sr., has exemplified excellence, sportsmanship, and community engagement, earning the respect and admiration of the Norfolk community and surrounding communities; and WHEREAS, the Park Place Kings Football and Cheer Organization, under the leadership of President Mike Dickens, has upheld the values of athletic excellence, mentorship, and community involvement, providing young athletes with opportunities for growth both on and off the field; and WHEREAS, the 2024 season was a historic one for the Huntersville Wolverines, as the team secured three Southside Youth Football League (SYFL) Championships in the 6U, 10U, and 12U divisions, with the 12U team completing an undefeated season, a remarkable achievement that speaks to their talent, discipline, and perseverance; and WHEREAS, the Huntersville Wolverines and the Park Place Kings have demonstrated the highest levels of camaraderie, mutual respect, and competitive excellence, making a lasting impact on youth sports in the region; and WHEREAS, despite challenges, the Southside vs. Peninsula Battle of the Bay was successfully organized with the collaboration of Hampton 300 and Aberdeen, culminating in a first-ever Champion vs. Champion event, where the Huntersville Wolverines 6U team defeated Aberdeen, and the 10U team triumphed over Hampton 300, further solidifying the program's legacy; and WHEREAS, the success of the Huntersville Wolverines, the Park Place Kings, and the broader SYFL community has been made possible through the unwavering support of parents, coaches, volunteers, team staff, nurses, and team moms, as well as the City of Norfolk, the Mayor's Office, Norfolk City Council members past and present, the Huntersville Civic League, Norfolk Parks and Recreation staff, Norfolk Police Department officers, and Hampton Parks and Recreation officials, including Conroy Newman and his staff; and WHEREAS, the commitment of these individuals and organizations has ensured that the SYFL continues to serve as a beacon of mentorship, character development, and academic excellence for young athletes, preparing them for success in all aspects of life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Southside Youth Football League, the Huntersville Wolverines Football and Cheer Organization, and the Park Place Kings Football and Cheer Organization hereby be commended for their outstanding achievements, their dedication to youth mentorship, and their enduring contributions to the Norfolk community; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Tony Brown, Sr., president of the Huntersville Wolverines Football and Cheer Organization, and Mike Dickens, president of the Park Place Kings Football and Cheer Organization, as an expression of the House of Delegates' deep appreciation for their leadership and the positive impact of their organizations on young athletes and their communities.
