1319 WHEREAS, McKinley L. Price, D.D.S., an esteemed dentist and public servant who has admirably served the Newport News community for nearly a half-century, retired in 2024; and

1521 WHEREAS, McKinley Price graduated from the historic Collis P. Huntington High School in Newport News in 1967 before earning a bachelor's degree in biology from the Hampton Institute, now Hampton University, and honorably serving his country as a first lieutenant in the United States Army; and

1723 WHEREAS, after obtaining a doctoral degree in dental surgery from Howard University in 1976 and completing a general anesthesia residency at the former Provident Hospital in Baltimore, McKinley Price embarked upon a 47-year career in dentistry, working tirelessly to attend to the oral health needs of the residents of Newport News; and

1925 WHEREAS, McKinley Price has advanced dental medicine in the Commonwealth and beyond through his affiliation with a number of professional associations, including the Old Dominion Dental Society, where he currently serves as president, and Delta Dental of Virginia, for which he currently serves as board chair; in 1989, he made history as the first Black president of the Peninsula Dental Society; and

2127 WHEREAS, McKinley Price has upheld the highest standards of the dental profession and is a fellow in the Virginia Dental Association, the American College of Dentists, and the International College of Dentists; and

2329 WHEREAS, in recognition of his accomplishments as a dentist, McKinley Price has been honored with numerous distinguished awards, including three Dentist of the Year awards from the Old Dominion Dental Society; and

2531 WHEREAS, McKinley Price served as the mayor of Newport News from 2010 to 2022, during which time he demonstrated a deep commitment to the well-being of the locality and its residents; he also previously served as a member of the Newport News City Council and was a member of the Newport News School Board from 1984 to 1992, including two years spent as chair; and

2733 WHEREAS, McKinley Price has provided leadership and expertise as a member of the United States Conference of Mayors and as president of the African American Mayors Association; and

2935 WHEREAS, McKinley Price's impact on the community includes service as chair of the board of the Riverside Health System Foundation, vice chair of the Riverside Health System board, and chair of the Thomas Nelson Community College board, and he also served the Commonwealth as a gubernatorial appointee to the Virginia Economic Development Partnership's board of directors; and

3137 WHEREAS, McKinley Price's community service has garnered a number of prestigious accolades, including multiple citizen of the year awards, the President's Humanitarian Award from 100 Black Men of the Virginia Peninsula, Inc., the Presidential Citizenship Award from Hampton University, and the Humanitarian Award from the Peninsula Chapter of the National Conference for Community and Justice; now, therefore, be it

Price, D.D.S., as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his extraordinary career as a dentist and public servant and best wishes for a rewarding and fulfilling retirement.
