SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 306

Celebrating the life of James Downer Ogg.

WHEREAS, James Downer Ogg of Louisa County, a respected innovator in the telecommunications field and a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died on November 30, 2024; and

WHEREAS, James Jim Ogg grew up near Chicago, Illinois, and graduated from Maine Township High School; he continued his education at DePaul University, then earned a master of business administration degree from the University of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, inspired by his late father and his aunts and uncles, Jim Ogg gained an appreciation for the value of integrity and responsibility at a young age; his experiences on the Ogg family farm in Louisa County helped to forge his strength of character and incomparable work ethic; and

WHEREAS, Jim Ogg enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the telecommunications field, where his visionary leadership led to numerous advancements in modern communication systems; he believed firmly that technology should benefit all members of society and pursued innovations that would create new opportunities and enhance the lives of others; and

WHEREAS, Jim Ogg played a critical role in the introduction and expansion of broadband Internet service in Louisa County, earning accolades for his work with the board of the Louisa County Broadband Authority; and

WHEREAS, Jim Ogg's proudest achievements were those as a loving husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and friend; in later life, he completed a historic restoration on the Ogg Farm, reestablishing it as both his personal sanctuary and a gathering place that will serve his family for years to come; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by his wife, Sandra, Jim Ogg will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his children, Lori, Kelli, Lisa, JoAnn, and James, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of James Downer Ogg, an esteemed leader in the telecommunications field and the highly-admired patriarch of the Ogg family; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of James Downer Ogg as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
