19+WHEREAS, Peter John Kemp, MD, an esteemed physician and hospital leader and beloved member of the Virginia Beach community, died on September 23, 2024; and

1721 WHEREAS, after graduating from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in 1988, Peter Kemp completed his internship in obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) at what was formerly the Harlem Hospital Center in New York City before fulfilling his residency requirements at what was formerly Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan, between 1989 and 1992; and

1923 WHEREAS, following his education and training, Peter Kemp settled in Virginia Beach with his family and established his own private practice, Chesapeake Women's Care, in 1993; and

2125 WHEREAS, Peter Kemp joined the staff at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center (CRMC) in 1995 and over the next few decades was instrumental to the safe and healthy delivery of hundreds of babies in the Hampton Roads region; and

2327 WHEREAS, through his leadership as medical staff president, OB/GYN department chair, and credentials committee chairman, Peter Kemp had an outsized impact on the culture and community at CRMC; and

2529 WHEREAS, Peter Kemp's devotion to providing quality patient care at CRMC was evident in his steadfast efforts to foster physician relationships and to improve workforce and patient safety; and

2731 WHEREAS, Peter Kemp was an outspoken advocate for causes he believed in and regularly organized groups of physician leaders to visit the General Assembly in order to provide physicians' perspectives on various health care issues of the day; and

2933 WHEREAS, Peter Kemp was a generous mentor to the many students who worked with him over the years, contributing greatly to the preparedness and success of future generations of physicians for the benefit of the community; and

3135 WHEREAS, Peter Kemp will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife, Sue; his children, Chris, Michael, and Katie, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
