SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 338

Commending the Elizabeth River Republican Women's Club.

WHEREAS, the Elizabeth River Republican Women's Club, an affiliate of the Virginia Federation of Republican Women and the National Federation of Republican Women, the largest grassroots organization of active Republican women in the country, celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2025; and

WHEREAS, the Elizabeth River Republican Women's Club was founded on February 23, 1985, by its charter members, including Lisa Apperson, Billie Holsweig, Midge Denhender, and Marianne Nelowet, and serves the communities of Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Smithfield, and Charlotte, North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, the Elizabeth River Republican Women's Club meets regularly at members' homes to plan its various projects and activities, including fundraising, organizing meet-and-greets, canvassing, and volunteering at the polls; and

WHEREAS, over the past 40 years, the members of the Elizabeth River Republican Women's Club have given generously of their time and resources to support the campaigns of candidates whose values align with their own; and

WHEREAS, the Elizabeth River Republican Women's Club has played a vital role in local politics by working closely with local and district units of the Republican Party and with other Republican women's clubs at all levels, with many of its members serving in leadership capacities within these organizations; and

WHEREAS, the Elizabeth River Republican Women's Club has advanced the efforts of the Virginia Federation of Republican Women and the National Federation of Republican Women through financial support and by participating in the organizations' official programs and conventions; and

WHEREAS, beyond its political advocacy, the Elizabeth River Republican Women's Club has generously supported the community by raising thousands of dollars to support charitable endeavors, including organizations such as the Help and Emergency Response, Inc., Shelter, the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters, and Union Mission Ministries; and

WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the Elizabeth River Republican Women's Club are the result of the hard work and determination of the organization's leaders and volunteers, who have made a profound and lasting impact on the Hampton Roads community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Elizabeth River Republican Women's Club on the occasion of its 40th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Elizabeth River Republican Women's Club as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for its legacy of service.
