SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 357

Commending the Nepali Community of Greater Richmond Virginia.

WHEREAS, the Nepali Community of Greater Richmond Virginia, a recently established nonprofit organization, fosters a strong sense of community among Nepali Americans in the region and is committed to preserving and celebrating Nepali culture; and

WHEREAS, founded in 2023, the Nepali Community of Greater Richmond Virginia provides a support network for Nepali American families and promotes Nepali art, cuisine, language, and traditions through educational programs and social events; and

WHEREAS, the Nepali Community of Greater Richmond Virginia's events to commemorate Nepali holidays such as Holi, Nepali New Year, Dashain, and Deusi Bhailo have enriched cultural life in Richmond, and the organization hosts regular town hall meetings to engage with community members and build cohesion on local issues; and

WHEREAS, the Nepali Community of Greater Richmond Virginia provides informative workshops and operates the Pathshala school program to provide age-appropriate education on Nepali language, art, and history to younger Nepali Americans and any other interested students; and

WHEREAS, the Nepali Community of Greater Richmond Virginia promotes health and wellness and nurtures athletic talent through a variety of sports programs, including soccer, badminton, running, and ping pong; and

WHEREAS, the Nepali Community of Greater Richmond Virginia offers assistance programs for new immigrants to help them navigate life in the United States and build a stronger connection with their new home while maintaining roots in their heritage; and

WHEREAS, members of the Nepali Community of Greater Richmond Virginia have also generously donated their time and talents to other charitable groups and civic organizations to enhance the quality of life of all Richmond residents; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Nepali Community of Greater Richmond Virginia for its work to cultivate a sense of cultural pride and build a sense of belonging among Nepali Americans in the Richmond area; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Chandra Malla, president of the Nepali Community of Greater Richmond Virginia, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the organization's service to Nepali Americans and all members of the wider Richmond community.
