SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 388

Commending Voices for Virginia's Children.

WHEREAS, for more than three decades, Voices for Virginia's Children has provided evidence-based, community-focused advocacy to enhance the lives of children throughout the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, established in 1994 by a nonpartisan group of child welfare advocates with support from the Freddie Mac Foundation and the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Voices for Virginia's Children is the Commonwealth's only independent, multi-issue child policy and advocacy organization; and

WHEREAS, Voices for Virginia's Children strives to support all young people, specializing in issues related to early childhood, child welfare, health and mental health, and family economic security; and

WHEREAS, Voices for Virginia's Children promotes thought-provoking debate and discussion about children's issues and provides information about solutions that research and experience have demonstrated will benefit young people; and

WHEREAS, Voices for Virginia's Children mobilizes community members and partner organizations to advocate for changes in programs, priorities, and systems that result in better outcomes for young people; and

WHEREAS, as the home of the KIDS COUNT Data Center, Voices for Virginia's Children is one of the best, most up-to-date sources of statistical data about young people in the Commonwealth and analyzes trends and models to identify the root problems young people are facing; and

WHEREAS, Voices for Virginia's Children also established the Virginia's Youth in Action youth leadership program, which enhances young people's abilities to engage with local and state officials and advance their communities through advocacy, storytelling, and civic engagement; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Voices for Virginia's Children on the occasion of its 30th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Voices for Virginia's Children as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the organization's legacy of contributions to young people.
