SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 197
Commending the Smithfield High School Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps rifle team.
Agreed to by the Senate, January 16, 2025
WHEREAS, the Smithfield High School Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps rifle team earned numerous accolades over the course of the 20232024 season, including a first-place finish in the Virginia Rifle League; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Smithfield High School Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) rifle teamDalton Fesser, Joey Frey, Summer Fruchey, Ryan McEathron, Jaidyn Pettaway, Ryder Swedlund, Nymiar Towns, and Alora Wootenall performed consistently well throughout the season, allowing the team to retain its ranking as the number one United States Army JROTC rifle team in the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Summer Fruchey and Nymiar Towns also represented the Smithfield High School JROTC rifle team as individuals at a regional tournament in February 2024; and
WHEREAS, at the national level, the Smithfield High School JROTC rifle team placed second out of 49 teams at the National Postal Match in Topeka, Kansas; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Smithfield High School Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps rifle team hereby be commended for its successful 20232024 season; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Lieutenant Colonel Peter Badoian, USA, Ret., head coach of the Smithfield High School Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps rifle team, as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the team's achievements.
