1319 WHEREAS, Colonna's Shipyard, Inc., in Norfolk, one of the oldest continuously family-owned and private shipyards in the United States, celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2025; and

1521 WHEREAS, Colonna's Shipyard was founded in 1875 by a 26-year-old ship carpenter named Charles J. Colonna in what was formerly Norfolk County, now the Berkley section of the City of Norfolk; and

1723 WHEREAS, over 150 years, Charles J. Colonna and several successive generations of Colonnas grew Colonna's Shipyard from a ship repair business into a diverse industrial company with extensive capabilities in machining, large steel fabrication, and commercial and government ship repair; and

1925 WHEREAS, in 2000, Colonna's Shipyard established a new division, Steel America, which specializes in heavy machining, fabrication, and repair in support of the ship repair, maintenance, and overhaul markets; and

2127 WHEREAS, Colonna's Shipyard expanded to Colonna's Shipyard West in San Diego, California, in 2015, enhancing the company's ability to serve clients on the Pacific coast, and founded Weld America five years later to support on-site welding services; and

2329 WHEREAS, as Colonna's Shipyard has modernized and evolved over the past 150 years, the company has remained steadfastly committed to founder Charles J. Colonna's policy of hard work, good value, and fair dealing; and

2531 WHEREAS, Colonna's Shipyard's 150th anniversary provides an opportunity to honor and appreciate the extraordinary hard work and dedication that has been integral to the company's success and longevity; now, therefore, be it

2733 RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Colonna's Shipyard, Inc., hereby be commended for its legacy of service on the occasion of its 150th anniversary; and, be it

2935 RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Colonna's Shipyard, Inc., as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for its contributions as a leader in the maritime and shipbuilding industries of Norfolk, the Commonwealth, and the nation.
