1319 WHEREAS, Marshall L. DeHaven, a patriotic veteran and a respected resident of Winchester, has devoted his life to the service of others; and

1521 WHEREAS, Marshall DeHaven grew up in Winchester and earned the nickname Peachie for the time he spent enjoying the shade under a peach tree near his family's home; and

1723 WHEREAS, Peachie DeHaven began his career working at a local wholesale grocery store, Valley Fruit & Candy from 1949 until 1952, when he joined the military and served the nation during the Korean War; and

19-WHEREAS, after his honorable military service from 1952 to 1954, Peachie DeHaven worked for his brother's plant nursery, then joined Schenck Foods Company, a local institution that has provided wholesale and retail groceries to customers in the region for nearly 100 years; and

2329 WHEREAS, over the course of his 55 years of service, Peachie DeHaven helped Schenck Foods uphold its reputation for excellence and rose through the ranks to become general manager and vice president of the board; and

2531 WHEREAS, Peachie DeHaven has long been active in civic affairs in Winchester, working diligently to enhance the quality of life for all local residents and going above and beyond to support fellow veterans, including through his participation in the Winchester Patriots Pride Day event and as the sergeant of arms in the Korean War Veterans Association Shenandoah Valley Chapter 313; now, therefore, be it

2733 RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Marshall L. DeHaven hereby be commended for his lifetime of personal and professional achievements; and, be it

2935 RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Marshall L. DeHaven as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for his legacy of service to the Winchester community and the nation.
