Statement of purpose of bill as introduced:  This bill proposes to amend the list 19 
of persons who may request a certified copy of a birth or death certificate to 20

It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:  3 
Sec. 1.  18 V.S.A. § 5016 is amended to read: 4 
§ 5016.  BIRTH AND DEATH CERTIFICATES; COPIES; INSPECTION 5

(b)  Certified copies. 7

(2)  Only the following persons shall be eligible for a certified copy of a 9 
birth or death certificate: 10 
(A)  the registrant or his or her the registrant’s spouse, child, 11 
grandchild, parent, sibling, grandparent, aunt, uncle, nephew, niece, or 12 
guardian; a person petitioning to open a decedent’s estate; a court-appointed 13 
executor or administrator; or the legal representative of any of these; 14

Sec. 2.  EFFECTIVE DATE 16 
This act shall take effect on July 1, 2025. 17
