Statement of purpose of bill as introduced:  This bill proposes to provide that 11 
when a court permits alternate service of process in a civil proceeding, the 12 
order shall remain in effect and apply to all subsequent service of process in 13 
the same proceeding.  14 
An act relating to orders permitting alternate service of process in civil 15 
proceedings 16 
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:  17 
Sec. 1.  12 V.S.A. § 663 is added to read: 18 
§ 663.  ALTERNATE SERVICE OF PROCESS; DURATION OF ORDER 19  BILL AS INTRODUCED 	H.254

When the court orders that alternate service of process be made in a civil 1 
proceeding, the order shall remain in effect and apply to all subsequent service 2 
of process in the same proceeding, including post-judgment proceedings.  This 3 
section shall apply to orders issued pursuant to Vermont Rule of Civil 4 
Procedure 4(d)(1) permitting service of process by publication or by leaving a 5 
copy at the defendant’s dwelling house or usual place of abode, or to orders 6 
permitting alternate service of process under any other provision of law.  7 
Sec. 2.  EFFECTIVE DATE 8 
This act shall take effect on passage. 9
