Subject: Crimes and criminal procedure; justifiable homicide   6 
Statement of purpose of bill as introduced:  This bill proposes to establish a 7 
“stand your ground law” so that a person who is in the their home or vehicle is 8 
not required to retreat before using deadly force in the defense of the person’s 9 
own life or the life of any other person or if the person reasonably believes that 10 
the person, or any other person, is in imminent peril and that it is necessary to 11 
repel that peril with deadly force in the forceful or violent suppression of a 12 
person attempting to commit murder, sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, 13 
burglary, or larceny from the person. 14

It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:  16
