10-Whereas, in the 21st century, electric power, which is overwhelmingly transmitted
11-through openly exposed local and long-distance electric power transmission lines, is
12-essential for all aspects of daily living, and
13-Whereas, when lightning, snow, wind, and other variants of disruptive weather strike,
14-the electric power lines are often damaged, posing an immediate danger to persons who
15-encounter the wires and disrupting the flow of electric power to neighborhoods, entire
16-municipalities, and even large sections of the State, including vital health and public
17-safety facilities, and
18-Whereas, these electric power disruptions trigger the response of the dedicated men
19-and women who are employees of Vermont’s cooperative, investor-owned, and
20-municipal utilities, the organizations that, for decades, have striven to provide all
21-Vermonters with reliable, safe, and, in more recent years, increasingly environmentally
22-friendly electric power, and

17+Whereas,theseelectricpowerdisruptionstriggertheresponseofthededicatedmenand
18+womenwhoareemployeesofVermont’scooperative,investor-owned,andmunicipalutilities,
19+theorganizationsthat,fordecades,havestriventoprovideallVermonterswithreliable,safe,
20+and,inmorerecentyears,increasinglyenvironmentallyfriendlyelectricpower, and
2321 Whereas,theseelectricutilityemployeesmustworkextendedhours,underextremely
24-dangerous conditions that require the utmost degree of care and professionalism, in a
25-time-pressured effort to restore electric power expeditiously and eliminate dangerous
26-hazards on the landscape and byways of the State, and
27-Whereas, these individuals are truly unsung heroes, whose impact on our daily lives is
28-often forgotten and underappreciated, and
29-Whereas, across the country, April 18 is annually observed as National Lineman
30-Appreciation Day, and a Vermont commemoration is in order, now therefore be it

23+pressuredefforttorestoreelectricpowerexpeditiouslyandeliminatedangeroushazardsonthe
