Whereas,MohsenMahdawiisaresidentofWhiteRiverJunctionandhas
beenaU.S.permanentresident(greencardholder)forthepastdecade,and
Whereas,onMonday,April14,2025,inthebeliefthathewastoparticipate
inhisfinalinterviewforU.S.citizenship,MohsenMahdawiarrivedattheU.S.
immigrationofficeinColchester,and Whereas,insteadofcommencingtheinterview,armedimmigration
authoritiesinplainclotheswithfacescoveredarrestedMohsenMahdawiand
refusedtoprovideanyinformationregardingwherehewasbeingtakenor
whatwouldhappentohim,and
Whereas,inajointstatementthatU.S.SenatorsSandersandWelchand
U.S.RepresentativeBalintreleased,theydescribedthisactionas“immoral,
inhumane,andillegal,”and
Whereas,Vermont’sthreefederallegislatorsalsodemandedthatMohsen
Mahdawibeafforded“dueprocessunderthelawandimmediatelyreleased
fromdetention,”nowthereforebeit
ResolvedbytheHouseofRepresentatives:
Thatthislegislativebodystronglyobjectstothemannerandcircumstances
underwhichU.S.immigrationauthoritiesarrestedanddetainedMohsen
Mahdawiandstronglyadvocatethathebeaffordeddueprocessunderthelaw
andreleasedimmediatelyfromdetention,andbeitfurther
Resolved:ThattheClerkoftheHousebedirectedtosendacopyofthis
resolutiontoU.S.SecretaryofHomelandSecurityKristiNoem,Immigration
andCustomsEnforcementActingDirectorToddLyons,andtheVermont
CongressionalDelegation.
