Whereas,MohsenMahdawiisaresidentofWhiteRiverJunctionandhasbeenaU.S. permanentresident(greencardholder)forthepastdecade,and Whereas,onMonday,April14,2025,inthebeliefthathewastoparticipateinhisfinal interviewforU.S.citizenship,MohsenMahdawiarrivedattheU.S.immigrationofficein Colchester,and Whereas,insteadofcommencingtheinterview,armedimmigrationauthoritiesinplain clotheswithfacescoveredarrestedMohsenMahdawiandrefusedtoprovideany informationregardingwherehewasbeingtakenorwhatwouldhappentohim,and Whereas,inajointstatementthatU.S.SenatorsSandersandWelchandU.S. RepresentativeBalintreleased,theydescribedthisactionas“immoral,inhumane,and illegal,”and Whereas,Vermont’sthreefederallegislatorsalsodemandedthatMohsenMahdawibe afforded“dueprocessunderthelawandimmediatelyreleasedfromdetention,”now thereforebeit ResolvedbytheSenate: ThattheSenateoftheStateofVermontstronglyobjectstothemannerand circumstancesunderwhichU.S.immigrationauthoritiesarrestedanddetainedMohsen Mahdawiandstronglyadvocatethathebeaffordeddueprocessunderthelawandreleased immediatelyfromdetention,andbeitfurther Resolved:ThattheSecretaryoftheSenatebedirectedtosendacopyofthisresolution toU.S.SecretaryofHomelandSecurityKristiNoem,ImmigrationandCustoms EnforcementActingDirectorToddLyons,andtheVermontCongressionalDelegation.
