14 | 14 | | This bill requires the Department of Administration to establish a competitive |
---|
15 | 15 | | grant program that is open to public and private schools for grants to improve the |
---|
16 | 16 | | safety of school buildings and to provide security training to school personnel. Under |
---|
17 | 17 | | the bill, DOA must delegate the administration of the grant program to cooperative |
---|
18 | 18 | | educational service agency 6 (CESA 6). In administering the program, CESA 6 must |
---|
19 | 19 | | give preference to applicants that have not received a school safety grant from the |
---|
20 | 20 | | Department of Justice. The bill provides $30,000,000 for these grants. Finally, the |
---|
21 | 21 | | grant program sunsets on July 1, 2025. |

46 | 46 | | (a) In this subsection: |

47 | 47 | | 1. “CESA 6” means cooperative educational service agency 6. |
---|
48 | 48 | | 2. “Department” means the department of administration. |
---|
49 | 49 | | 3. “Private school” has the meaning given in s. 115.001 (3r). |
---|
50 | 50 | | 4. “Public school” has the meaning given in s. 115.01 (1). |
---|
51 | 51 | | (b) The department shall establish a competitive grant program to award |
---|
52 | 52 | | grants to public and private schools to improve the safety of school buildings and to |
---|
53 | 53 | | provide security training to school personnel. The grant program established under |
---|
54 | 54 | | this paragraph shall be administered by the board of control of CESA 6. In awarding |
---|
55 | 55 | | grants under this paragraph, the board of control of CESA 6 shall give preference to |
---|
56 | 56 | | applicants that have not received a grant under s. 165.88. |
---|
57 | 57 | | (c) No grants may be awarded under this subsection after June 30, 2025. |
