1111 AN ACT relating to: grants for crisis intervention teams and making an

1414 This bill provides $1,000,000 for the Department of Health Services to award
1515 grants to counties, cities, towns, villages, and American Indian tribes or bands in this
1616 state in the 2023-25 fiscal biennium for the staffing of law enforcement agencies
1717 with mental health crisis intervention teams. Under current law, DHS must award
1818 grants totaling $1,000,000 in each fiscal biennium for mental health crisis
1919 intervention team training for law enforcement agencies and correctional officers.

2222 The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
2323 enact as follows:
2424 SECTION 1.0Nonstatutory provisions.
2525 (1) From the appropriation under s. 20.435 (5) (cd), in the 2023-25 fiscal
2626 biennium, the department of health services shall award grants, as determined by
2727 the department of health services, in the total amount of $1,000,000 to counties,

3636 cities, towns, villages, and American Indian tribes or bands in this state for the
3737 staffing of law enforcement agencies with mental health crisis intervention teams.
3838 SECTION 2.0Fiscal changes.
3939 (1) In the schedule under s. 20.005 (3) for the appropriation to the department
4040 of health services under s. 20.435 (5) (cd), the dollar amount for fiscal year 2023-24
4141 is increased by $1,000,000 to award the grants under SECTION 1 (1) of this act.
4242 SECTION 3.0Effective date.
4343 (1) This act takes effect on the day after publication, or on the 2nd day after
4444 publication of the 2023 biennial budget act, whichever is later.
