Referred to Committee on State Affairs. ***AUTHORS SUBJECT TO CHANGE*** AN ACT to create 20.255 (2) (fi) and 115.403 of the statutes; relating to: grants for LGBTQIA+ rights training for school counselors and school social workers and making an appropriation. Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau Under this bill, the Department of Public Instruction must award grants to school boards to provide training in LGBTQIA+ rights, in a program developed or approved by DPI, to school counselors and school social workers employed by school boards. The bill defines “LGBTQIA+” as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, or any other nonheterosexual or noncisgender orientation, identity, or expression. The amounts in the schedule for grants under s. 115.403 (2) for training in LGBTQIA+ rights for school counselors and school social workers. SECTION 3. 115.403 of the statutes is created to read: 115.403 LGBTQIA+ rights training grants. (1) In this section, “LGBTQIA+” means lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, or any other nonheterosexual or noncisgender orientation, identity, or expression. (2) The department shall award grants to school boards to provide training on the rights of LGBTQIA+ individuals, in a program developed or approved by the department, to school counselors and school social workers employed by a school board.
