1010 AN ACT to amend 250.20 (3) of the statutes; relating to: minority health grants.

1212 This bill adds a funding priority for the minority health program through which
1313 the Department of Health Services annually awards grants to organizations for
1414 activities to improve the health status of economically disadvantaged minority group
1515 members. Under current law, DHS awards grants of up to $50,000 per year per
1616 applicant and requires that applicants that are not federally qualified health centers
1717 receive priority for grants. This bill requires that applicants providing maternal and
1818 child health services also receive priority for these grants.
1919 The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
2020 enact as follows:
2121 SECTION 1. 250.20 (3) of the statutes is amended to read:
2222 250.20 (3) From the appropriation account under s. 20.435 (1) (cr), the
2323 department shall annually award grants for activities to improve the health status
2424 of economically disadvantaged minority group members. A person may apply, in the
2525 manner specified by the department, for a grant of up to $50,000 in each fiscal year
2626 to conduct these activities. An awardee of a grant under this subsection shall

3636 provide, for at least 50 percent of the grant amount, matching funds that may consist
3737 of funding or an in-kind contribution. An applicant that is not a federally qualified
3838 health center, as defined under 42 CFR 405.2401 (b) shall receive priority for grants
3939 awarded under this subsection. An applicant that provides maternal and child
4040 health services shall receive priority for grants awarded under this subsection.
