1111 AN ACT to create 343.085 (2) (d) of the statutes; relating to: exemptions from
1212 the requirement that an original driver's license be a probationary license.
1313 Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
1414 Under current law, a probationary license is, with certain exceptions, issued to
1515 all applicants who qualify for an original driver's license and remains in effect for two
1616 years from the date of the licensee's next birthday. Currently, the following persons
1717 are exempt from this requirement:
1818 1. Certain persons who have been licensed by another jurisdiction.
1919 2. Persons who are issued a commercial driver license.
2020 3. Persons entitled to a regular license under a foreign license reciprocity
2121 agreement.
2222 Those who are exempt from the probationary license requirement are instead
2323 issued a regular license that remains in effect for eight years after the date of
2424 issuance.
2525 Under this bill, a person who provides to the Department of Transportation
2626 documentary proof that the person is enlisted in the U.S. armed forces is also exempt
2727 from the probationary license requirement.

3030 The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do

3636 SECTION 1. 343.085 (2) (d) of the statutes is created to read:
3737 343.085 (2) (d) Any person who provides to the department documentary proof
3838 that the person is enlisted in the U.S. armed forces is exempt from this section.
