| 14 | 14 | | Under current law, a probationary license is, with certain exceptions, issued to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | all applicants who qualify for an original driver's license and remains in effect for two |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | years from the date of the licensee's next birthday. Currently, the following persons |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | are exempt from this requirement: |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | 1. Certain persons who have been licensed by another jurisdiction. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | 2. Persons who are issued a commercial driver license. |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | 3. Persons entitled to a regular license under a foreign license reciprocity |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | agreement. |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Those who are exempt from the probationary license requirement are instead |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | issued a regular license that remains in effect for eight years after the date of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | issuance. |

| 25 | 25 | | Under this bill, a person who provides to the Department of Transportation |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | documentary proof that the person is enlisted in the U.S. armed forces is also exempt |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | from the probationary license requirement. |
