| 18 | 18 | | Under current law, the State Superintendent of Public Instruction must conduct |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | a statewide, biennial assessment of the need for American Indian language and culture |

| 20 | 20 | | education programs. Various information must be included in this assessment, including |

| 21 | 21 | | information on the numbers, ages, location, and tribal affiliation of American Indian |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | pupils. While certain school districts began voluntarily reporting tribal affiliation data |

| 23 | 23 | | to the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) during the 2021-2022 academic school |

| 24 | 24 | | year, current law does not explicitly require school districts to collect this information and |

| 25 | 25 | | report it to DPI. |
