15 | 15 | | rates for PSC proceeding expenditures. |

16 | 16 | | Under current law, a public utility, sewerage system, or power district |
---|
17 | 17 | | (collectively, utility) may not raise the rates that it charges to customers without first |
---|
18 | 18 | | applying to the PSC for approval of the change. The PSC may assess to utilities |
---|
19 | 19 | | certain amounts corresponding to the PSC's expenditures in carrying out its duties |
---|
20 | 20 | | relating to utilities. Generally under current law, a public utility that supplies gas |
---|
21 | 21 | | or electricity to its customers and that is not a city, town, or village may recover in |
---|
22 | 22 | | rates any expenditure for costs in a proceeding before the PSC up to four times the |
---|
23 | 23 | | total amount assessed to that public utility by the PSC. This bill reduces this limit |
---|
24 | 24 | | to the total amount assessed to that public utility by the PSC. |

25 | 25 | | The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do |

26 | 26 | | enact as follows: |
