99 ***AUTHORS SUBJECT TO CHANGE***
1010 AN ACT to create 27.01 (10) (d) 1m. of the statutes; relating to: reservations and
1111 fees for camping in certain state parks and modifying administrative rules of
1212 the Department of Natural Resources.
1313 Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
1414 This bill modifies the process and fees for reserving camping sites in certain
1515 state parks, which are established by law and in administrative rules of the
1616 Department of Natural Resources.
1717 Currently, camping reservations (reservations) may be made 11 months in
1818 advance, and nonresidents pay a higher camping fee than residents. Current law
1919 also authorizes DNR to determine which state campgrounds are located in areas
2020 where market conditions justify higher camping fees and to promulgate rules
2121 establishing higher camping fees for those campgrounds.
2222 Under the bill, for those campgrounds for which DNR has established these
2323 higher camping fees, residents may begin making reservations 11 months in advance
2424 and nonresidents may begin making reservations 14 days later. A resident who
2525 makes a reservation during the 14-day window before a nonresident may do so must
2626 pay the nonresident camping fee for each night of the reservation, in addition to the
2727 increased fee established by DNR.
