Referred to Committee on Campaigns and Elections. ***AUTHORS SUBJECT TO CHANGE*** AN ACT to create 6.34 (3) (a) 14., 6.34 (3) (a) 15., 6.34 (3) (a) 16., 6.34 (3) (a) 17. and 6.34 (3) (a) 18. of the statutes; relating to: proof of residence for voter registration. Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau Under current law, an elector may use any of a number of identifying documents as proof of residence in order to register to vote, including a bank statement, paycheck, utility bill, property tax bill, check or other document issued by a unit of government, or current and valid operator's license or identification card issued by the Department of Transportation. Current law provides that such identifying documents must specify the elector's name and residential address. This bill adds the following to the list of identifying documents that an elector may use as proof of residence in order to register to vote: 1. A W-2 form. 2. A medical billing statement. 3. A service welcome letter, such as from a financial institution, utility, or credit card company. 4. An insurance document. 5. A report card, official school transcript, or certified school record. A W-2 form for the current year or the year preceding the date of the election. SECTION 2. 6.34 (3) (a) 15. of the statutes is created to read: 6.34 (3) (a) 15. A medical billing statement of a physician or hospital for the period commencing not earlier than 90 days before the day registration is made. SECTION 3. 6.34 (3) (a) 16. of the statutes is created to read: 6.34 (3) (a) 16. A service welcome letter, such as from a financial institution, utility, or credit card company, for the period commencing not earlier than 90 days before the day registration is made. SECTION 4. 6.34 (3) (a) 17. of the statutes is created to read: 6.34 (3) (a) 17. An insurance document for the current year or the year preceding the date of the election. SECTION 5. 6.34 (3) (a) 18. of the statutes is created to read: 6.34 (3) (a) 18.
