20 | 20 | | The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do |

21 | 21 | | enact as follows: |

22 | 22 | | SECTION 1. 20.285 (1) (em) of the statutes is created to read: |

23 | 23 | | 20.285 (1) (em) Student teacher tuition remission. A sum sufficient to |
---|
24 | 24 | | reimburse the University of Wisconsin System for student teacher tuition remissions |
---|
25 | 25 | | under s. 36.27 (3q). |

37 | 37 | | 36.27 (3q) TUITION REMISSION FOR STUDENT TEACHERS. (a) In this subsection, |

38 | 38 | | “student teacher” means an individual enrolled as a resident undergraduate student |
---|
39 | 39 | | in the system who is participating in the student teaching component of a teacher |
---|
40 | 40 | | preparatory program in this state approved by the state superintendent of public |
---|
41 | 41 | | instruction under s. 115.28 (7) (a). |
---|
42 | 42 | | (b) The board shall grant full remission of resident undergraduate tuition to |
---|
43 | 43 | | student teachers during their semester of student teaching. |
---|
44 | 44 | | (c) The cost to the system of remissions under this subsection shall be paid from |
---|
45 | 45 | | the appropriation account under s. 20.285 (1) (em). |
---|
46 | 46 | | SECTION 3.0Initial applicability. |
---|
47 | 47 | | (1) This act first applies to individuals who commence student teaching in the |
---|
48 | 48 | | first semester that begins after the effective date of this subsection. |
---|
49 | 49 | | SECTION 4.0Effective date. |
---|
50 | 50 | | (1) This act takes effect on the first day of the 3rd month beginning after |
---|
51 | 51 | | publication, or on the first day of the 3rd month beginning after publication of the |
---|
52 | 52 | | 2023 biennial budget act, whichever is later. |
